  • RadioShack names head of human resources

    FORT WORTH, Texas — RadioShack has named Telvin Jeffries as EVP and chief human resources officer and general manager of retail services, effective Aug. 1. Jeffries will report to Jim Gooch, president and CEO of RadioShack Corp.

  • CKE plans to expand Hardee’s in Minneapolis market

    Carpinteria, Calif. -- CKE Restaurants is planning to expand its Hardee's footprint in the Minneapolis area over the next several years and sees the potential to develop more than 59 new restaurants in the market.

    “We are excited to expand in the Minneapolis area, and we're now looking for experienced multi-unit operators to join the brand,” said Jim Sullivan, CKE's senior VP domestic franchise development.

  • New PetSmart DC to open in Pa.

    PHOENIX — PetSmart is opening up a new distribution center in Bethel, Pa. in order to better serve its growing store base and increased demands on its supply chain.

  • Former Bloomingdale CEO Marvin Traub dead at 87

    New York -- Marvin S. Traub, Bloomingdale’s president and CEO for 22 years, died Wednesday at age 87. Traub had suffered from bladder cancer.

    Traub is credited with turning the Bloomingdale’s Manhattan flagship – at Lexington and 59th – into a showcase. He started as a merchandising manager in 1962, and was named president in 1969.

  • Trio of former managers sue Wet Seal for discrimination

    Santa Ana, Calif. -- A report released Thursday by the New York Times said that three ex-managers of Wet Seal have filed a federal race discrimination lawsuit, claiming bias against African-American employees. The trio alleges the retailer has a high-level policy of firing and denying pay increases and promotions to blacks because they did not fit the retailer’s “brand image,” according to the Times report.

    Retailers scaled back on their promotional efforts in June this year when compared to last year—there were decreases in the number of circulars released by the majority of retailers, as well as a decrease in  the number of pages per circular.

  • PetSmart to open new DC in Berks County

    Harrisburg, Pa. -- Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett said Thursday that PetSmart will open a new distribution center in Bethel Township, Berks County, Pa.
     
    PetSmart will construct an 870,000-sq.-ft. distribution center in Berks Park 78, a new industrial park located in Bethel Township. The company will start construction on the $50 million distribution center in the fall of 2012, with completion expected in first quarter 2014.

    The project is expected to create at least 500 new jobs by 2016. 

  • Alco Stores names senior VP marketing and e-commerce

    Abilene, Kan. -- Alco Stores announced the promotion of Brent Streit to senior VP marketing and e-commerce.

    Streit in 2001 he joined Alco, then known as Duckwall-Alco Stores, as a buyer. Since then he has held increasingly responsible positions in supply chain management, marketing and business development.
