  • Safeway only retailer among Employer Support Freedom Award winners

    Pleasanton, Calif. - Safeway was selected to receive the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the nation's highest honor given to employers for exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve employees.

    Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, an office of the Department of Defense, announced the 15 award recipients on Tuesday.

  • U.S. Cellular’s top executive named CEO of Ulta Beauty

    Bolingbrook, Ill. -- Ulta Beauty has selected Mary Dillon, the president and CEO of U.S. Cellular, as CEO, effective July 1, 2013. She replaces Dennis K. Eck, who has been serving as interim CEO of Ulta since CEO Chuck Rubin left to head up Michaels.

    Dillon, 52, who will also become a member of Ulta’s board, has served in the top spot at U.S. Cellular since 2010. Previously, she was global chief marketing officer and executive VP for McDonald's Corp.

  • Virtual Piggy beefs up executive team

    LOS ANGELES — Virtual Piggy, an online service that allows parents to monitor their children's online shopping behavior, has appointed Laura Janke Jaeger as general counsel. 

    Jaeger has more than 20 years of experience advising boards and management teams on strategic and financing activities, as well as transactional and other corporate and regulatory issues. 

  • Rite Aid promotes Ken Martindale to president

    Camp Hill, Pa.  -- Rite Aid Corp. has promoted Ken Martindale, currently senior executive VP and COO, to president and COO. Rite Aid chairman, president and CEO John Standley will continue in those roles.

    The promotion of Martindale, 53, is effective immediately.

  • OurPet's president announces exit

    FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio — OurPet's president John M. Silvestri has resigned citing personal reasons and will leave the company after July 5. Silvestri has been with the leading proprietary pet supply company since Feb. 12, 2012. 

    "John's departure is voluntary and without any disputes,” said chairman and CEO Dr. Steven Tsengas. “We will miss John as he brought many best practices to our company that are facilitating our growth and development. We wish him the best of everything in wherever his future takes him." 

  • Levin Management survey shows continued caution among retailers

    North Plainfield, N.J. -- A cooler start to spring and mixed-bag of Memorial Day weekend weather in the Northeast may have contributed to less than expected year-to-date sales and traffic for some retailers, according to Levin Management’s annual mid-year Retail Sentiment Survey, which polled retailers in the firm’s 90-property, 12.5 million-square-foot shopping center portfolio.
     

  • New SVP, CIO for Advance Auto Parts

    ROANOKE, Va. — Advance Auto Parts has promoted Donna Justiss to the position of SVP and chief information officer. Justiss will report to EVP and CFO Mike Norona, and will continue to be based in Roanoke, Va.

    She will be responsible for the strategic leadership of all aspects of Advance’s Information Technology area, including application development and support, infrastructure and information security.
