  • Former Toys ‘R’ Us exec Stride(s) Rite

    Wolverine Worldwide has appointed Ira P. Hernowitz as president of the Stride Rite Children's Group.

    Hernowitz most recently served as EVP of "R" Us Brands for Toys “R” Us, Inc. He has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout his career, and deep experience in children's products.

  • Retailers lag in omnichannel as holiday hiring grows

    Shoppers continue to integrate digital devices into their lives and crave an equally integrated experience from retailers, but satisfying this heightened set of ominchannel expectation remains a work in progress for most retailers.

    Few retailers have a well-defined omnichannel strategy with most professing to be in the development phase, according to a global consulting firm Hay Group. This rather worrisome insight was among the key findings in global consuling firm Hay Group’s 7th annual holiday hiring survey.

  • Report: Closeout retailer Building #19 going out of business

    Hingham, Mass. – Building #19, a closeout retailer with 10 stores in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, is reportedly planning a giant closeout sale of its own. According to the Boston Business Journal, Building #19 filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 1 and requested permission to obtain the services of liquidation sale specialist Gordon Brothers.

  • Giant-Landover appoints new president

    Ahold USA has appointed former executive for Asian retailer Dairy Farm International Gordon Reid as president of its Giant Food of Landover, Md., division.

    Reid is replacing interim president and Ahold USA EVP operations Bhavdeep Singh. Singh served in the role of interim president following the departure of Anthony Hucker, who resigned from Giant-Landover in September to become EVP and chief strategy officer for St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets.

  • SRS hires first VP in Tampa, Fla.

    Dallas — SRS Real Estate Partners welcomes T. Michael McNamara as first VP in the Tampa, Fla., office. A seasoned commercial real estate veteran with 23 years of experience, he will focus on tenant representation, landlord representation and land brokerage services across Tampa Bay and Central Florida.

    McNamara comes to SRS from Sperry Van Ness where he was a senior advisor specializing in the sale and leasing of retail, office and industrial properties in the Sarasota, Orlando and Tampa Ba markets.

  • Publix Q3 profit edges down

    Lakeland, Fla. -- Publix reported net earnings for the third quarter fell 2.3% to $359.9 million, compared to $368.4 million in the year ago period.

    Sales for the third quarter were $7 billion, up 5.6% from last year’s $6.7 billion. Same-store sales rose 4.1%.

  • Former Clarks exec steps into new role at Wolverine Worldwide

    Wolverine Worldwide has appointed Frank Annunziata as VP and general manager of Sebago. Annunziata will be responsible for further developing the brand's global growth platform of footwear, apparel and accessories, and will report to Ted Gedra, president of the company's Heritage Group.

  • Big Lots to focus on retail business, shuts down wholesale biz

    Big Lots plans to close down its wholesale operations, Big Lots Wholesale, Consolidated International and Wisconsin Toy, by the end of the current fiscal year. The move is the latest in the company’s strategy to refine its business model and focus on its retail stores.

    As things wind down for the wholesale business its inventory will be liquidated. The company says that it will assimilate employees into its retail operations wherever and whenever possible throughout the next 90 days.
