  • Mid-America names director of net lease sales

    Oakbrook Terrace, Ill. Mid-America Real Estate Corp. recently signed Wes Koontz, CCIM, as director of net lease investment sales. He will work in tandem with Kevin Conway, also director of net lease investment sales.

  • Dell lends support to digital disaster recovery

    The American Red Cross has enhanced its ability to respond to disasters with support from Dell to open a new digital operations center in north Texas.

    The Red Cross embraced social media in a big way in 2012 when it became apparent that Twitter, Facebook and other digital communication methods were the first place people turn when disasters strike. The relief organization opened the Red Cross Digital Operations Center roughly two years ago in Washington, D.C. with support from Dell and now the two are working together to open the north Texas location.

  • Sam’s Club donates $2.5 million to female entrepreneurs

    Bentonville, Ark. – The Sam’s Club Giving Program is providing a $2.5 million grant to grow U.S. women-owned businesses and jumpstart job creation. Awarded to three non-profit organizations, the grant creates the WE Lend Initiative, a two-year investment in strengthening SBA-recognized Women’s Business Centers (WBCs).

  • NRF: Retail employment grows in March

    Washington, D.C. -- Retail employment increased 18,200 in March and 229,000 year-over-year, according to the National Retail Federation. The increase is consistent with recent positive economic indicator reports and bodes well for income and consumer confidence as the industry enters into the busy spring selling season.

  • Barnes & Noble books new board member

    Barnes & Noble named Tulane University president Scott Cowen to its board a after a major shareholder disclosed it was dumping 90% of its stake in the company and relinquishing a seat on the board of directors.

    Cowen serves as president of Tulane University in New Orleans and also holds the titles of Seymour S. Goodman Memorial Professor of Business in Tulane’s A.B. Freeman School of Business and Professor of Economics in the School of Liberal Arts.

  • Dick’s Sporting Goods opens relocated Pittsburgh store April 13

    Pittsburgh – Dick’s Sporting Goods opens a relocated store at McCandless Crossing in Pittsburgh on April 13. The original store location at Northway Mall will be closing on April 8 to make way for the new, enhanced McCandless Crossing location.

  • NRF urges 40-hour week for full-time workers

    Washington, D.C. -- The National Retail Federation (NRF) has urged Congress to pass the bipartisan Save American Workers Act, which would change the Affordable Care Act’s definition of full-time employment from 30 hours per week to 40 hours. NRF sent a letter to the House saying all votes related to the bill, H.R. 2575, would be considered key votes for the association’s annual scorecard.
