  • Rite Aid names Roundy’s exec as CFO

    Camp Hill, Pa. -- Rite Aid Corporation announced that Darren Karst is joining Rite Aid as executive VP and CFO, effective Aug. 20.

    Karst succeeds Frank Vitrano, who has announced he will retire in September, 2015. Until then, Vitrano retains the chief administrative officer responsibilities for the company’s information technology, real estate and indirect procurement functions. He will also serve as a key resource in the development and execution of new business and growth initiatives.

  • NRF lowers 2014 sales forecast; expects next five months to be strong

    Washington, D.C. -- Slower-than-expected growth during the first half of the year caused the National Retail Federation to lower its retail sales forecast for 2014. NRF said it now expects sales will grow 3.6% in 2014, down from its earlier forecast of 4.1%. The group joined other industry experts in forecasting a pick-up in activity in the next five months.  

  • Sealed Air relocates HQ to N.C. from N.J.

    Charlotte, N.C. will be home to the new global headquarters of Sealed Air Corp., as the global packaging company opens a state-of-the art, environmentally-sustainable campus to house its research and development facilities and corporate offices.

    The $7.7 billion company said over the course of the next three years it will relocated roughly 1,300 jobs to North Carolina from its existing headquarters in Elmwood Park, N.J., and other facilities nationwide. Sealed Air employs roughly 25,000 people and is known for brands such as Cryovac, Bubble Wrap and Diversey.

  • Workers at Macy’s store in Massachusetts can unionize

    New York – The National Labor Relations Board has issued a ruling that workers in the cosmetics and fragrances department in a Macy’s store located in Saugus, Massachusetts, have the right to attempt to unionize. According to the Wall Street Journal, the 3-1 ruling sided with the United Food and Commercial Workers union and said the 41 Macy’s employees form a community of interest.

  • SRS Real Estate Partners hires new associate

    Dallas — SRS Real Estate Partners has hired Daniel Poku as an associate in the Dallas/Fort Worth office. A newcomer to the industry, Poku has a background in economics.

    Poku is a recent graduate of Southern Methodist University. Poku is also currently pursuing a new venture called CauseCakes, with plans to launch fall 2014. CauseCakes partnered with a local bakery to provide cupcakes with wrappers that prompt acts of random kindness for special events and corporate meetings.

     

  • Sam’s Club helping finance child care

    A $500,000 grant from the Sam’s Club Giving Program will help fund an innovative program to provide technical assistance to small child care operators in low income communities.

  • Sam’s Club opens in Oxford, Alabama, July 24

    Bentonville, Ark. - Sam’s Club will open a new store in Oxford, Alabama, on July 24. The store will bring 170 jobs to the community

    A number of health and wellness services will also be available, including a pharmacy, optical center and hearing aid center.

     

  • On The Border names IHOP franchise vet as president

    Dallas - On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina, has appointed Ward Whitworth as president of On The Border. The move follows the resignation of On The Border CEO Steve Clark, who has committed to stay on for a period of time in order to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.
