  • Abercrombie taps Target, Victoria’s Secret execs as brand presidents

    Abercrombie & Fitch Co. has named two veteran retailers to head up its divisions.

    The teen apparel retailer named Stacia Anderson as president of its namesake brand, and also its abercrombie kids division. Anderson is a 20-year veteran of Target Corp., where she most recently served as senior VP of merchandising.  She will join Abercrombie on June 13.
     

  • Wayfair names new infrastructure head

    Wayfair Inc. has appointed Chad Ghosn VP of IT infrastructure and security.

    Ghosn will oversee a large engineering team that is responsible for scaling Wayfair’s infrastructure system to meet customer demands and company needs. Before joining the online home furnishings retailer, Ghosn led the infrastructure team at Expedia Inc.

    Prior to his role at Expedia, Ghosn spent more than a decade in various infrastructure leadership positions at Dell Inc. Previously, he led network operations for Kaiser Permanente.

  • Real Estate’s 10 Under 40

    Chain Store Age’s annual search for 10 retail real estate stars under the age of 40 years resulted in this: Ten youthful, creative, hard-charging industry executives.

    Some are retailers, others are brokers or from shopping center companies. Three are women. One is under the age of 30. There’s a single Canadian in the bunch. Two work for CBRE. Each has studied the business, sought out mentors, and researched and taken on the issues of the day.

  • Victoria’s Secret taps former Nike exec as CEO

    L Brands subsidiary Victoria’s Secret has named a veteran of the specialty and intimate apparel verticals as its new CEO.

    Jan Singer, who served as CEO of Spanx from June 2014 – March 2016, is now CEO of Victoria’s Secret. Previously, she held corporate VP positions at Nike from February 2004 – June 2014.

  • Wal-Mart surprises with higher-than-expected Q1 revenue and profit

    Wal-Mart Stores broke the retail gloom that has penetrated so many recent first quarter earnings reports as it posted higher than expected earnings and revenue gains, and gave an upbeat view for the current period.

    Wal-Mart’s strong performance in a quarter that has challenged so many other retailers, including Target, offered evidence that its efforts to improve its U.S. stores are paying off. Among other things, the giant discounter has increased associate pay and taken moves to ensure its stores are more consistently in stock.

  • Target names new top merchant, creates chief digital officer role

    Target on Tuesday announced the hire of Mark Tritton as EVP and chief merchandising officer. In this role, Tritton will oversee enterprise buying, product design and development, sourcing, visual merchandising strategy and merchandising transformation and operations for the retailer.
  • Retail association calls new overtime laws a “career killer”

    The nation’s two leading retail associations issued critical statements in response the release of the overtime rule by the U.S. Department of Labor. Under the new regulation, issued by the Labor Department on Wednesday, most salaried workers earning up to $47,476 a year must receive time-and-a-half overtime pay when they work more than 40 hours during a week. The previous cutoff for overtime pay, set back in 2004, was $23,660.
