  • Aldi veteran joins executive team of Kroger's value format

    The Kroger Co. has named a veteran of discount grocer Aldi to Kroger's own low-cost division.    Kroger on Wednesday appointed Liz Ferneding as president of Ruler, effective July 31. She succeeds Paul Bowen, who retired in May.  
  • Customers most satisfied with these appliance retailers

    Best Buy ranks highest in customer satisfaction in the $24 billion-plus appliance market.    That's according to the J.D. Power 2017 Appliance Retailer Satisfaction Study. With a score of 857, Best Buy came out on top, ahead of Lowe's (840), The Home Depot (839), Hhgregg (831) and Sears (828). Overall satisfaction with appliance retailers in 2017 is 838 points, up from 821 in 2016.   
  • Penney starts search for a new CFO

    J.C. Penney's finance head of three years is leaving to "pursue other interests."    Edward Record stepped down as CFO of Penney effective July 11, according to a regulatory filing. He will remain in an advisory capacity with the company until Aug. 7. Andrew Drexler, Penney's senior VP and chief accounting officer and controller, will serve as interim CFO while the retailer searches looks for Record's replacement.  
  • Barnes & Noble names head of stores

    A former Advance Auto and Starbucks executive has joined the executive team of the nation's largest bookstore chain.    Barnes & Noble said that Carl Hauch has been named VP stores, effective immediately. Hauch will be responsible for the entire retail store organization and profitable growth of the business, driving sales, training, developing talent and recruitment.     
  • Cushman names director of Palm Beach brokerage

    Cushman & Wakefield has tapped Dominic Delgado as senior director of its retail brokerage for Palm Beach and Broward County, Florida.   Delgado moves over to Cushman from LDR Partners, a Florida firm that focused on acquisition of low-performing retail, office, and hospitality real estate during the recession. As executive VP there, Delgado represented a mix of national and regional developers and REITs.  
  • BDO: The top risk factors for retailers are....

    Consumer confidence remains strong, but that's not stopping retailers from worrying about the economy.   General economic conditions ranked as a top risk factor for the 9th consecutive year in an annual ranking of the top 25 risk factors by retailers, cited by 100% of respondents. Cybersecurity and regulatory concerns shared the top spot with the economy.  
  • New center gives boost to Georgia town

    A new Publix-anchored center has brought 200 jobs and new shopping and dining opportunities to the 14,000-plus residents of Moultrie, Georgia, according to The Moultrie Observer.   “We’d had 26 ribbon cuttings through March. There’s a lot of new businesses expansions, adding a few people here and there. Our unemployment rate continues to drop.” said Darrell Moore, president of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Development Authority.   
  • Former Target merchandising exec joins specialty coffee retailer

    A Target veteran has joined the leadership team of Caribou Coffee.      John Butcher, who most recently served as senior VP merchandising: beauty and DermStore, has been tapped as president of Caribou Coffee. Butcher joined Target in 1997, working his way up through the ranks serving in various operations and merchandising roles, including serving as VP and general merchandise manager, electronics.
