  • A busy day for BJ's

    The New Year is off to a busy start at BJ’s Wholesale Club. Amid ongoing speculation about the retailer being a potential takeover target, BJ’s on Wednesday announced the closure of five clubs, several senior level personnel changes and released its December sales a day earlier than normal.

  • Grubb & Ellis names project manager

    Chicago -- Grubb & Ellis Co. announced that Thomas M. Erdelac, AIA, a 24-year commercial real estate veteran, has joined the company as senior project manager.

    Erdelac was most recently a principal with VOA Associates.

  • BJ’s announces executive changes

    Natick, Mass. -- BJ’s Wholesale Club announced that Robert W. Eddy, senior VP, director of finance, has been named executive VP and CFO, and Cornel Catuna, BJ’s senior VP field operations, has been named executive VP club operations. These management changes will be effective on Jan. 30.

  • Mattel plays with idea of new COO position

    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - Mattel announced that it has appointed Bryan Stockton, Mattel’s president of international, to the new position of chief operating officer, effective immediately. Stockton will report to Robert Eckert, chairman and chief executive officer of Mattel, as will Mattel’s finance, legal and human resources functions.

    The company also announced that Neil Friedman, president of Mattel brands, will be leaving the company in March 2011.

  • Sears names president of Retail Services unit

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings announced that Deidra Cheeks Merriwether has been promoted to senior VP and president of its Retail Services business unit, succeeding James H. Haworth who will be leaving the company to pursue other opportunities. Merriwether will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of retail services for all Kmart and Sears stores.

  • Sears names apparel head

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Sears Holdings announced today that apparel veteran Lana Cain Krauter will join the company as SVP and president Sears apparel. She will be responsible for the oversight, leadership and growth of Sears' apparel business, both in-store and online.

  • SPECS Show Announces Future Retail Leaders Program

  • Sears, Kmart get new head of retail services

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Sears Holdings' SVP procurement and finance has been promoted.

    Deidra Cheeks Merriwether now holds the title of SVP and president retail services, succeeding James Haworth. In this role, Merriwether, who joined the corporation in 2001, will be responsible for the oversight and leadership of retail services for the broadline retailer's Kmart and Sears stores.

    Merriwether currently serves as a member of Sears Canada's board of directors and is the executive sponsor of the company's African-American Associate Network.
