  • Simon Property Group takes 'driving' shopper traffic literally

    Simon Property Group is employing a novel strategy to generate traffic to some of its signature properties that appeal to well-heeled South American tourists.

  • Johnny Rockets acquired by Sun Capital

    New York -- Johnny Rockets has been acquired by an affiliate of private-equity group Sun Capital Partners Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    Johnny Rockets operates about 300 corporate and franchise-owned hamburger restaurants in 30 states and 16 countries, including 17 Six Flags amusement park locations and 11 Royal Caribbean cruise ships.

  • Starbucks counts calories

    Seattle -- Starbucks Coffee Company will start including calorie information on menu boards in all U.S.-based corporate and licensed stores on June 25. The retailer will post calorie counts to accompany each beverage listed on the menu boards, as well as on tags to accompany food in the bakery case. All calorie counts will reflect the item as made by standard recipe and will not include potential extra calories resulting from whipped cream, different types of milk or sweetener, or other customer options.

  • UCR announces three new leases

    Houston -- United Commercial Realty Houston has announced three new leases for Houston-area centers:

    • Goody Goody Liquor will open a third Houston-area location at Copperfield Village Shopping Center this fall.
    • Pink’s Pizza has signed a deal for its fifth area location at the Cougar Den Plaza adjacent to the University of Houston’s central campus.
    • Affinity Veterinary will open a clinic at a center located at 19450 Katy Freeway in Houston.
  • Dunkin’ Donuts details new store design

    Canton, Mass. -- Dunkin’ Donuts provided highlights of its new store design, the brand's first in nearly seven years. The new layout and contemporary look maintains the brand's focus on helping people get in and get on their way, while incorporating new features to create a warm environment for guests who seek a longer, more relaxed visit.  Inviting seating areas include updated furniture and lighting, as well as convenient electrical outlets and bar top areas for smartphones and computers.

  • Domino’s launches Pinterest program

    Ann Arbor, Mich. -- Domino’s is offering a new program called “Second Hand Logos” on Pinterest. Ten artists are using old materials featuring the old Domino’s logo, such as uniforms and signage, to create artwork which is displayed for sale on Domino’s Pinterest page. In addition to selling products, the Pinterest page will also provide updates on art projects and information on the artists. A separate dedicated e-commerce page will also bring visitors directly to the Domino’s Pinterest page.

  • Cypress Equities acquires regional center in Portland

    Dallas -- Cypress Equities Real Estate Investment Management has announced the acquisition of Lloyd Center in Portland, Ore. The enclosed, three-level 1,478,000-sq.-ft. regional shopping center is located near downtown close to the Convention Center, Rose Garden Arena and Memorial Coliseum.

  • Bounty hits a home run with Cincinnati Reds

    CINCINNATI — Bounty Select-A-Size has teamed up with the Cincinnati Reds as part of a promotional campaign. The company will have 40 Bounty Clean Crew members on hand at every Reds home game to help clean up messes around the park while touting the efficacy of its paper towels to baseball fans.
