  • Subway extends mall lease in Mount Vernon, Ill.

    Mount Vernon, Ill. — Sansone Group and Pine Tree Commercial Realty LLC have signed a lease extension with Subway restaurant at Times Square Mall in Mount Vernon, Ill. As part of the extension, Subway will expand its restaurant by approximately 500 sq. ft.

    Sansone Group (www.sansonegroup.com) and Pine Tree (www.pinetreecommercial.com) own the 269,328-sq.-ft. center in partnership with the Wanxiang America Real Estate Group.

  • Quantum Capital arranges refi for Las Vegas retail centers

    Beverly Hills, Calif. — Quantum Capital Partners, a real estate finance and advisory firm, has arranged two new loans to refinance two retail properties in Las Vegas for a private investor.

    A $1.04 million loan will refinance the 12,000-sq.-ft. El Mercado, an L-shaped retail center in east Las Vegas, and a $1.19 million loan will refinance Wigwam, a 10,300-sq.-ft. strip center about four miles south of the Las Vegas Strip.

  • Early Bird Deadline for Retail Store of the Year

    New York -- Chain Store Age invites retailers, design firms, architects and suppliers to submit entries for its 32nd annual Retail Store of the Year design competition. Deadline for submission is December 23, 2013. There is a reduced entry rate for submissions received by Nov. 29.

    The competition is open to stores and restaurants that opened between November 30, 2012 and December 6, 2013.

  • Red Robin opens in Secaucus, N.J., and Cincinnati

    Greenwood Village, Colo. — Red Robin Gourmet Burgers has announced that it will open two new restaurants, one in Secaucus, N.J., and another in the Cincinnati metro area. To help celebrate the grand opening of the new restaurants, the company will donate the proceeds of all sales of its signature Freckled Lemonade during the two restaurants’ first week of operation to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding cures for kids with cancer.

  • Togo’s announces nine franchise agreements in California

    San Jose, Calif. — Togo’s Eateries has announced signed development agreements with new and existing franchisees to open nine new restaurants in markets across California. The company will open two restaurants in downtown Los Angeles, two in midtown and downtown Sacramento, and single units in San Jose, Santa Cruz, Riverbank, El Centro and Petaluma.

  • Starbucks makes push to hire veterans, active duty spouses

    With plans to more than double its 200,000 global workforce in the foreseeable future, Starbucks is making a push to hire veterans and active duty spouses, much like other retailers like Walmart and Home Depot.

    In addition, a store in Lakewood, Wash., and a store in San Antonio, Texas, will begin sharing a portion of each transaction with nonprofit programs Operation GoodJobs and Vested in Vets as part of a commitment to establish five such stores in joint base communities around the United States.

  • Starbucks wants to hire 10K vets, active duty spouses

    Seattle – Starbucks says it will develop a comprehensive hiring platform for veterans and active duty spouses in response to record growth and in anticipation of a 500,000-person future global workforce. This multi-year hiring and career development strategy will focus on establishing an internal infrastructure dedicated to matching the transferable skill sets of veterans and military spouses with the specific talent needed across the Starbucks enterprise.

  • Denny’s selects Wireless Ronin’s digital menu systems

    Minneapolis -- Wireless Ronin Technologies has established a relationship with Denny’s Corp., and received an initial order from AAFES to install its RoninCast digital menu system at the Denny’s Fresh Express concept at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas.

    The  Ronin’s solution will feature digital menu and promotional screens that display a streamlined menu for both Denny’s Fresh Express and Denny’s AllNighter concepts.
