  • Safeway dumps Dominick's after Q3 profit swoon

    Safeway plans to exit the Chicago market where it operates 72 supermarkets under the Dominick’s banner by early 2014 after posting third quarter profits that were roughly half those of the comparable period the prior year.
    The decision to exit Chicago follows similar move earlier this year when Safeway announced the sale of its Canadian operations.

  • Men’s Wearhouse rejects Jos. A. Bank offer, adopts rights plan

    Fremont, Calif. – The Men’s Wearhouse has rejected the unsolicited proposal by Jos. A. Bank to acquire the company for $48 per share, or about $2.3 billion.

    Men’s Wearhouse said in a press release that the offer significantly undervalues the company, is inadequate and not in the best interests of the company or its shareholders.

  • Deloitte Consumer Spending Index falls in September

    New York - The Deloitte Consumer Spending Index moved down again in September, showing the second month of small declines. The Index tracks consumer cash flow as an indicator of future consumer spending.

  • CBRE: U.S. CRE continued to recover during Q3

    Los Angeles — The U.S. commercial real estate market continued a slow, but steady, recovery in the third quarter of 2013, according to the latest analysis from CBRE Group.

    In the quarter, the retail availability rate declined 10 basis points to 12.2% and had fallen 70 basis points from one year ago.

  • Men’s Wearhouse appoints Vitamin Shopper director to board

    Fremont, Calif. – The Men’s Wearhouse has appointed B. Michael Becker to its board of directors. Becker has served as a director at Vitamin Shoppe, Inc. since January 2008 and is chairman of its audit committee.

    Becker spent his career as an audit partner for Ernst & Young LLP from 1979 until his retirement in 2006. He was a senior consultant on airline risks to Pay Pal, Inc. from August 2008 to November 2009.

  • Vitamin Shopper director heads to Men’s Wearhouse board

    The Men’s Wearhouse has appointed Vitamin Shoppe director B. Michael Becker to its board of directors. 

    Becker has served as a director at Vitamin Shoppe since January 2008 and is chairman of its audit committee. He spent his career as an audit partner for Ernst & Young LLP from 1979 until his retirement in 2006. He was a senior consultant on airline risks to Pay Pal from August 2008 to November 2009.

  • Report: Tower Three divests remaining stake in Restoration Hardware

    New York -- A report by Wall Street Journal revealed that private equity investor Tower Three Partners will sell its final 3.9 million shares in Restoration Hardware Holdings, marking an exit for the buyout firms that acquired the home furnishings retailer in 2008.

    Restoration Hardware’s private-equity backers have been cashing out amid a 90% rally in the stock this year, according to the report.

  • Palmetto Gardens pays off loan, avoids foreclosure, signs Wal-Mart

    Miami Gardens, Fla. — The owners of Palmetto Gardens Plaza, a 7.1-acre center in Miami Gardens, have reached a settlement with PNC Bank, secured a new loan with Hudson Financial Services and signed a lease with Wal-Mart for a Neighborhood Market Store as its anchor tenant.

    In January of 2010, PNC Bank filed a foreclosure action against Palmetto Design Center, the property owner. That action has been settled.
