  • Appliance Recycling Centers names new CFO

    Minneapolis – Appliance Recycling Centers of America Inc. (ARCA) has named Jeffery Ostapeic as the company's CFO. Ostapeic is a certified public accountant and served most recently as an audit partner with Grant Thornton LLP, an international accounting firm.   
  • Demand drives up Nike in Q2

    Citing strong consumer demand for its products, Nike reported a big boost in revenue and profit for the second quarter.

    “Our strong second quarter results once again demonstrate NIKE is a growth company,” said Mark Parker, president and CEO of NIKE Inc. “The power of our portfolio continues to unlock growth, as we keep a laser focus on our biggest opportunities. The breadth and depth of that portfolio has helped us consistently deliver strong results –- quarter after quarter, year after year.”

  • Dollar General remains engaged with FTC

    Goodlettsville, Tenn. – Dollar General Corp. stated on Dec. 19 that it remains actively engaged in discussions with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding the extent of potential divestitures that would be required in connection with an acquisition of Family Dollar Stores Inc. Dollar General does not expect to provide any further update prior to the Family Dollar shareholders meeting currently scheduled for Dec. 23, 2014.   
  • Walmex bank division sells for $247 million

    Mexico City, Mexico - Grupo Financiero Inbursa, a banking firm owned by Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, has reportedly bought the bank division of Wal-Mart de Mexico (Walmex) for $246.94 million, or 1.7 times Walmex’s bank capital.

     

    According to Reuters, Walmex has been focusing on selling its non-core assets, such as its restaurant division, in the past year.

  • EBay will pay at least $35 million in exec severance

    San Jose, Calif. – The New Year is looking very happy for EBay CEO John Donahoe and CFO Bob Swan. In a securities filing, EBay said that Donahoe will get a severance package worth $23 million and Swan will get a severance package worth $12 million when the company spins off its PayPal unit in 2015. Both men said they would leave their positions after the split occurs when EBay first announced the spinoff plan in September.  
  • Celebration Pointe secures $46 million in financing for bridge construction and public infrastructure improvements

    Gainesville, Florida - Celebration Pointe, a 125-acre mixed-used development in the heart of Gainesville, has secured a $12 million State Infrastructure Bank (SIB) loan and $34 million in Community Development District (CDD) bonds. Celebration Pointe partner Ralph Conti made the announcement.  
  • Couche-Tard buys Pantry for $1.7 billion

    Cary, N.C. – Canadian convenience store conglomerate Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., which operates stores under the Circle K banner in the U.S., has agreed to purchase The Pantry Inc., operator of the Kangaroo Express convenience/fuel chain, for $1.7 billion. Purchase price includes $861 million in cash and about $840 million in assumed debt.  
  • Mixed-Use project gets go-ahead in Minnetonka

    St. Pau, Minnesota - Paster Properties and Bader Development announced that the City of Minnetonka City Council has approved the development of a six-story, 155,000-sq.-ft., mixed-use development at 1730 Plymouth Road, Minnetonka, Minnesota.
