  • Nickelodeon math line latest addition to Toys'R'Us

    LAS VEGAS — Nickelodeon has announced the launch of Team Umizoomi, the first line of preschool products to focus entirely on math, to be sold exclusively at Toys"R"Us stores. The line, which is based on the TV show of the same name, will debut with the Team Umizoomi Preschool Math Kits, appearing in stores this July. The Team Umizoomi Math Kits also can be purchased online from Nickelodeon in mid-July.

  • Wal-Mart makes big donation to New York City summer jobs program

    New York City -- Wal-Mart Stores will donate as much as $5 million to New York City’s cash-strapped Summer Youth Employment Program, Crain’s New York Business reported. The donation will reportedly save 3,400 jobs.

  • Lids acquires Buckeye Corner

    Indianapolis -- Lids Sports Group announced the acquisition of Buckeye Corner stores, which operates four stores in the Columbus, Ohio, area. The acquisition also includes Buckeye’s e-commerce website and a catalog business.

    Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

  • Blockbuster promotion makes the grade

    MCKINNEY, Texas — Blockbuster announced that it is rewarding good students with its "Good Grades, Free Rental" program. Children in kindergarten through 12th grade who earn a B average or better on their report cards can head to participating Blockbuster stores nationwide to receive a free, one-day, non-new release movie rental.

  • P&G and Walmart provide a teachable TV moment

    The latest installment in the dramatic collaboration between Procter & Gamble and Walmart is set to air this Saturday on NBC at 8 p.m. EST. The made-for-TV family movie called “Field of Vision” involves the topical subject of bullying, and in keeping with prior films offer viewers a heavy dose of morality.

  • A.C. Moore announces free summer kids craft events

    BERLIN, N.J. — A.C. Moore Arts & Crafts, which operates 135 stores along the U.S. East Coast, has announced a summer-long schedule of free "Make & Take" arts and crafts activities for children ages two to 12, through Aug. 31. All A.C. Moore stores (www.acmoore.com) will offer the free activities, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., each Wednesday, through the end of the summer.

  • Walmart exec to lead food safety initiative

    Frank Yiannas, VP food safety and health at Walmart, was named vice chair elect of The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), an organization created in 2000 by The Consumer Goods Forum. Yiannas will assume the role of vice chair in February 2012 when current vice chair, Yves Rey, corporate quality general manager, at Danone becomes chairman.
