  • Walmart Foundation empowers women with new partnerships

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — The Walmart Foundation alongside six women’s foundations – The Washington Area Women’s Foundation, The New York Women’s Foundation, Women’s Fund of Mississippi, Women’s Foundation of Minnesota, Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis and Women’s Funding Network – has launched the Partnership for Women’s Prosperity. The new national partnership intends to help economically vulnerable women gain financial and economic security through education, job training and employment opportunities.

    Bentonville, Ark. -- The Walmart Foundation announced Tuesday the launch of its Partnership for Women’s Prosperity, a move to help economically vulnerable women gain financial and economic security through education, job training and employment opportunities.

  • Food Lion helps customers support local schools

    SALISBURY, N.C. — Food Lion customers can support their favorite schools when they participate in the MVP Classroom Rewards program.

    When customers shop with their MVP Cards, a portion of their grocery bills spent only on qualified store brand products is automatically credited to the shoppers' local school of choice. Donations up to $2,500 will be distributed three times per year to schools in January, May and September.

  • CBRE names president of central division

    Los Angeles -- CBRE Group announced that Mike Gerard has been named president of the company’s U.S. Central Division, a geographic region with more than 25 offices in nine states.

    Gerard has served as chief learning officer since early 2011, with responsibility for CBRE University, and other learning and development programs. He will continue to provide executive oversight for CBRE University. Andrea Lipton, corporate director of learning & development, has been promoted to VP and will run the university’s day-to-day operations.

    The addition of retired KPMG International chairman Timothy Flynn to the Walmart board gives the retailer some compliance expertise amid ongoing investigations into alleged violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

  • Walmart tops list of charitable givers

    No company gave more money and products to charity in 2011 than Walmart, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy’s annual ranking.

    The publication put Walmart at the top of its list of the 10 most charitable companies, indicating that the company donated $342 million in cash and $616 million in products last year. That is the equivalent of 4.1% of the company’s 2010 pretax profits.

  • Target friends Facebook for back-to-school campaign

    Target is engaging Facebook to help determine how half of a $5 million back-to-school donation is allocated.

    The retailer plans to donate $5 million to schools as part of its “Give With Target” initiative this fall. The two-part giving campaign provides $2.5 million in grants to in-need schools, as well as up to $2.5 million in Target GiftCards to local schools through votes on Target’s Facebook page.
