KFC debuts new next-gen 'Open House' format in Texas
KFC has opened its “next-generation” restaurant that features a first-time breakfast menu along with other new offerings — including table service.
The new format, dubbed "Open House," is located in McKinney, Texas. Inspired by mid-century modern design in a nod to the era in which the KFC brand was founded, the 3,400-sq.-ft. restaurant features warm timber accents, oversized windows and flexible indoor, outdoor and breezeway seating for 52 guests.
In addition to table service, the new KFC offers dual drive-thru lanes and dedicated mobile pick-up lane for faster, more efficient service. Other new elements include self-order kiosks and digital menu boards.
Open House boasts a "celebration booth," which includes a digitally-enhanced, immersive photo booth experience. There's also a "swag bar " where customers can purchase exclusive KFC-branded apparel and souvenirs.
The Open House menu is designed to give guests more choice through more formats, flavors and pairings, according to KFC. The upgraded menu includes KFC's first-ever breakfast items, along with late-night offerings (the location is open 6:00 a.m. to 12 a.m.), in addition to a host of new beverage options that include boba refreshers and shakes.
Earlier this year, KFC announced plans to update its business that included next-generation store concepts and a new focus on boneless chicken menu items.
"Open House brings the Kentucky Fried Comeback to life in one restaurant," said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, president of KFC U.S. "We're building on the craveable fried chicken and genuine hospitality people have always loved about KFC, while introducing new flavors, new experiences and more ways to enjoy the brand. It gives guests a reason to try us, or try us again, while giving us a real restaurant where we can learn what works for guests, our teams and the business, and scale the strongest ideas across the system."
