Joann prepares for holidays across channels

By Dan Berthiaume - 11/04/2019

Joann is enhancing stores and crafting omnichannel shopping options in time for the holidays.

The specialty craft and fabric retailer is remodeling existing stores featuring cutting-edge technology, dedicated learning spaces and custom services, including The Creators’ Studio, a large open community space where customers can take classes, host events and work on projects while having a complimentary cup of coffee.

Joann’s remodeled stores also include a modernized cut bar, which allows customers to digitally “check in” and continue shopping until a text message alerts them a Team Member is ready to cut their fabric; tools such as long-arm sewing machines and cutting/engraving machines for rental; a concierge service called Joann’s Custom Shop, which offers custom sewing services for anything from suit tailoring to home décor; and new Cricut shops in 13 stores, with added square footage, demo spaces, work tables and expanded machine and material assortments.

In 2019, Joann opened 25 remodeled stores, including seven in October, and will continue to roll out these features and more in stores across the nation, through an investment in reinvigorating its fleet.

In addition, Joann is featuring updated omnichannel holiday shopping services, including same-day, buy-online-pick-up in-store (BOPIS), as well as ship from store (SFS) capabilities in several hubs.

Furthermore, Joann is exclusively selling the compact, portable Polaroid PlaySmart 3D printer and 3D Sculpto printer in the U.S. for the first time.  Each 3D printer comes with software to seamlessly print items directly from a smartphone, tablet or PC. The Polaroid and Sculpto 3D printers will be available in over 500 stores and online for $599.99 and $499.99, respectively.

“At Joann, we believe the only way to make this season better, is to make it yourself. We want to inspire crafters at any skill level to give the gift of something handmade,” said Joann Stores chief customer officer Chris DiTullio. “Whether it’s making for a charity, a handmade card, homemade cookies or personalized pajamas, we aim to inspire all to create this special time of year. And with less time between holidays this year, we’re providing customers with new omni-channel services and special promotions to get their shopping, crafting and decorating done early.”

Joann operates more than 865 stores across 49 states and an e-commerce business.
