The J.C. Penney Co. Inc. is expanding upon its omnichannel fulfillment options.
The department store retailer, which already offers buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPIS) and curbside pickup services, is now partnering with on-demand delivery platform DoorDash to offer same-day delivery of select online orders.
J.C. Penney is delivering beauty and salon merchandise in select markets, as well as home goods from more than 600 stores, via DoorDash. Shoppers can browse and order beauty and salon items such as makeup, skincare, fragrance, styling tools, and haircare; as well as home goods including pillows, home décor, towels, and sheets, for same-day delivery on orders placed up to an hour before the store closes through the DoorDash mobile app or e-commerce site. There is no time slot during store hours or minimum order size required.
The retailer has been attempting to beef up its digital shopping experience. Recently, J.C. Penney deployed smart predictive technology to better understand what assists shoppers in making purchase decisions. The company is using artificial intelligence (AI) technology from Metrical in an effort to drive e-commerce transformation and improve its online customer experience.
Since deploying the Metrical predictive AI platform, Penney has experienced a 40% increase in new cart creation, an 18% reduction in cart abandonment, and a 10% improvement in revenue on targeted visits.
Feeding billions of data points into a series of unique behavioral models, J.C. Penney utilizes the Metrical AI-based predictive solution to determine and create targeted value-adds for e-commerce customers. These value-adds can include special opportunities, as well as substitute products or additional services, depending on preferences of the individual consumer being targeted.

In celebration of the partnership, customers can get 30% off their order (up to $20) with code JCP30, now through Dec. 31, 2021. JCPenney products are also available on DashPass, DoorDash’s membership program that offers $0 delivery fee on eligible orders from thousands of restaurants, grocery, convenience, and retail stores nationwide. DashPass members can receive these benefits on all eligible orders from J.C. Penney.
