Japan's Muji to open stores at four East Coast shopping centers
Japanese lifestyle retailer Muji is continuing to grow its presence in the United States.
The company will open four new stores at Simon Property Group shopping centers across the Northeast (see locations later in article). Each new location will showcase Muji’s assortment of lifestyle products, including women's and men's apparel, furniture and home decor, storage and organization, kitchen and dining and more.
Founded in 1980, Muji operates more than 1,000 stores worldwide, including 10 in New York City, two in Massachusetts and one in Oregon. The brand says it is continuing to invest in its store network, digital business and customer experience.

"We are excited about the continued growth of Muji in the United States and the opportunity to bring Muji to more customers,” said Richard Rappaport, president of Muji USA. “These four new stores represent an important step in our broader U.S. strategy. We are investing in our physical retail presence and building for the long term, with plans to expand in both new and existing markets across the country. Our ambition is to make Muji more accessible while staying true to the simplicity, quality and thoughtful design that have defined the brand around the world."
The new Muji stores will open at the following locations:
- The Shops at Chestnut Hill, Chestnut Hill, Mass. (Opening fall 2026)
- The Westchester, White Plains, N.Y. (Opening fall 2026)
- Roosevelt Field, Garden City, N.Y.
- Newport Centre, Jersey City, N.J.
