Iris Apfel opens American Dream’s first pop-up shop

Iris Apfel, the famed fashion and interior designer who redid the White House for nine presidents, has now added her unique fashion sense to New Jersey’s biggest house of retail, American Dream.

Apfel, who turned 100 in August, founded the Old World Weavers textile business with her husband Carl and won international fame for her collections of audacious print garments and costume jewelry, has opened the first “Drop-Shop” in The Avenue, American Dream’s 300,000-sq.-ft. luxury shopping district.

Apfel stopped by American Dream this week to inspect the pop-up shop that offers a selection of home décor, including limited-edition sculptures, dinnerware, and tea sets with the same bold and eclectic designs that made her famous in couture.

Apfel redid parts of the White House for presidents Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and Clinton. She was the feature of a 2014 documentary call “Iris” and, in 2019 at age 97, was signed as a model by IMG.
