International jewelry retailer opens first U.S. store - with more to come

An Indian jewelry brand has put down roots in the United States.

Indian jewelry retailer and brand Tanishq has opened a two-story showroom in Iselin, N.J. The 3,750 sq. ft. showroom features wood and gold embellished displays and fixtures, hardwood flooring, and plush and wood seats and couches. Recessed lighting highlights a row of gold chandeliers that line the center of the ceiling.

The store will complement an e-commerce site that has been selling jewelry to customers in the United States for over a year, according to the company.

"We are on a mission to establish Tanishq as a global brand, and our retail showroom expansion in the United States is a significant step in that direction,” said C K Venkataraman, managing director at Titan Company Limited, the parent company of Tanishq. “Tanishq has been balancing the elegance of tradition with the brilliance of modernity for decades and we want to bring it to New Jersey.”

Tanishq operates more than 400 stores in India. The retailer also has seven stores in the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.). The company plans to open between 20 and 30 more stores in North America and the Middle East over the next two-to-three years.

The brand aims to meet the evolving needs of Indian Americans, who comprise 4.35% of New Jersey's total population, and are 387,000 strong. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, jewelry store sales were estimated at $33.2 billion in 2020, which was a 25% increase over the previous decade.
