Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie accepting federal benefit payments

Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket accept some federal benefits.

Two regional grocers operating in the Southeast U.S. are letting some Medicare Advantage and Medicaid recipients make purchases.

Southeastern Grocers (SEG), parent company of Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie, began partnering with the NationsBenefits network of grocery and over-the-counter (OTC) retailers in January 2024.

This collaboration enables eligible Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members of NationsBenefits to purchase approved healthy foods, groceries, pantry staples, wellness essentials, and OTC medications in all Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery store locations.

The program works via direct POS integration with the NationsBenefits flex benefit card program, which enables health plans to provide their members with a way to pay for eligible items and approved services. Members receive a personalized debit card that gives them access to funds that are loaded on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis.

Drugstore giant Walgreens also recently began accepting Medicare Advantage benefit payments for OTC health and wellness items.

"We are delighted to partner with NationsBenefits and accept its members' flex cards in our stores," said Gayle Shields, chief of store operations for SEG. "Together with NationsBenefits, we can help customers conveniently access and discover many healthy options to support their wellness needs at all our Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie store locations."

"It’s always so energizing to work with partners who are just as passionate about providing food as medicine solutions and expanding access to healthy foods and products for the populations they serve," said NationsBenefits CEO Glenn Parker, M.D. "We are grateful to work with Southeastern Grocers, and we wholeheartedly believe this collaboration will make it that much easier for Medicare Advantage and Medicaid members across the Southeast to choose healthier options."

Based in Jacksonville, Fla., Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) is the parent company and home of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket, and Winn-Dixie grocery stores. SEG grocery stores, liquor stores and in-store pharmacies operate throughout the five southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Aldi has agreed to purchase roughly 400 Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations.
