H-E-B recognized for disability commitment

H-E-B is one of the top employers in Texas for its commitment to supporting and hiring people with disabilities.

The regional grocer has received the Lex Freiden Employment Award, a recognition for employers in Texas who have fostered a diverse, accessible, and innovative workplace for people with disabilities. Since 1979, the Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities, an extension of the Office of the Texas Governor, has given the award to recognize businesses and nonprofits in the state. H-E-B received the honor for a large employer.

For its efforts, the committee highlighted H-E-B’s Bridges program, which the company launched to better understand, support, and recruit new employees with disabilities to H-E-B. 

“At H-E-B, our culture is rooted in inclusion, where each and every person counts,” an H-E-B representative said upon receiving the award. “The H-E-B Bridges program proactively, purposefully, and intentionally recruits Texans with disabilities. At H-E-B, we look for the best of the best and there are talented Texans who just so happen to identify as having a disability – we call them partners.” 

H-E-B stores in Austin and Midland, Texas have received the award in previous years. The company operates 400 stores in Texas and Mexico.
