Grocery Outlet in store milestone

Grocery Holding Corp. continues to expand its portfolio.

The discount grocer has opened its 400th store, in Hailey, Idaho, just south of the Sun Valley ski resort and east of Boise. The new location continues Grocery Outlet’s annual new store growth of approximately 10%. The company on track to open 36 to 38 stores this year.

Grocery Outlet is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. The company is also celebrating its second anniversary as a public company. It joined Nasdaq under the ticker symbol “GO” on June 20, 2019.   

Grocery Outlet calls itself “the leading extreme-value retailer in the United States,” offering name-brand “opportunistic products” at prices generally 40% to 70% below those of conventional retailers. In the quarter ended April 3, the company’s net sales totaled $752.5 million, down 1% from the year-ago period.

Based in Emeryville, Calif., Grocery Outlet has locations throughout California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Stores are owned by independent operators based in the communities they serve.
