GNC’s CIO joins Rue 21 c-suite

Rue 21 operates over 600 U.S. stores in 45 states.

Another GNC executive has moved over to Rue 21.

The teen apparel retailer named Scott Saeger as chief information officer, effective Sept. 11.  He joins the company from GNC, where he has served as CIO since 2018. Saeger’s appointment comes several months after Rue21 named former GNC head Josh Burris as CEO.  In June, Rue21 named former GNC exec Karlyn as Mattson executive VP, chief customer officer.

Prior to GNC, Saeger was VP, enterprise applications and operations at 1-800-Flowers.com. He also served in executive positions Hewlett-Packard, ExxonMobil, and Laura Mercie.

"We are thrilled to welcome Scott Saeger as our latest addition to the rue21 leadership team, fortifying our commitment to driving success in the affordable fashion industry," said Burris. "This strategic appointment marks a pivotal moment in our brand journey, cementing rue21's position to deliver exceptional experiences to our customers.

"We are thrilled to welcome Scott Saeger as our latest addition to the rue21 leadership team, fortifying our commitment to driving success in the affordable fashion industry," said Josh Burris, President and CEO of rue21. "This strategic appointment marks a pivotal moment in our brand journey, cementing rue21's position to deliver exceptional experiences to our customers. With a relentless focus on innovation, we strengthen our ability to set new standards and reach unparalleled milestones in the ever-evolving world of fashion."

In addition to Mattson, Saeger’s appointment follows the recent hires of two other key positions earlier this year, including:

  • Matt Crummy, chief strategy officer; and
  • Ann-Marie Clendenin, senior VP head of stores.

Saeger will provide leadership to the development of an innovative, robust, and secure information technology environment throughout Rue21's business. He will also be responsible for strategic planning and execution for the company’s business applications and operations, integration of ecommerce and back-office platforms, B2B and B2C initiatives and maintenance of retail.

"Rue21's mission to optimize the technology buying experience as a relevant, authentic, and affordable fashion destination resonates with my passion and expertise for enhancing the overall customer experience,” said Saeger. “I'm looking forward to collaborating closely with the team to help carry out rue21's mission of offering accessible fashion for all."

Headquartered just north of Pittsburgh,  in Warrendale,  Pa., Rue 21 currently operates more than 600 U.S. stores in 45 states.
