Giant Food will offer a virtual series aimed at improving consumer health.

A greater Washington, D.C., regional grocery chain is preparing to launch a five-week virtual series of free online nutrition and healthy living classes.

Called "Healthier Together," the series of online classes is aimed at supporting the wellness goals of the communities where it operates. The series will run from Jan. 17 – Feb. 14, 2023, and will be hosted by Giant's Healthy Living Team of registered dietitian nutritionists. The classes will provide health- and nutrition-focused guidance, as well as recipe and product suggestions.

Implementing lifestyle changes big or small can be overwhelming and we know change looks different for everyone," said Lisa Coleman, director of healthy living at Giant. "Our team has created a program that provides realistic solutions and helpful resources for those in the community who want to start the new year off by prioritizing their wellness."

The live classes will run on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. or 7 p.m. EST. Consumers can also watch recorded sessions at a time of their choosing. The sessions will explore the topics including organizing and planning, mindfulness, healthy habits to support fitness goals, food as preventative medicine, and expanding and balancing your plate.

Throughout the series, Giant will also showcase food products that have achieved a Guiding Stars ratings for health and nutrition. To further encourage customers to make healthier food choices, members of Giant’s rewards program can opt in to receive double Giant Flexible Rewards points when they shop Guiding Stars-rated products.

Giant Food first offered free, weekly online nutrition and healthy living classes aimed at all consumers, as well as content for individuals with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, in April 2020 during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.

These virtual classes were designed to serve as an extra preventative measure to ensure healthy living habits between non-urgent doctor visits, which may be delayed due to COVID-19 healthcare demands.
