First Look: Whole Foods Market makes Montana store debut

Whole Foods Market has entered its 44th state of operation.

The natural and organic foods retailer has opened a 31,718-sq-ft. store in Bozeman, Mont.  It is Whole Foods’ first location in the western state.

The new store was designed with outdoor adventure in mind. It has a modern and earthy look, with exposed wood beams, high ceilings and large paneled windows overlooking the nearby mountains.

Other features include an outdoor patio with heaters and a women-owned, full-service coffee bar, Treeline Coffee Roasters.

The product assortment features more than 75 local brands from Montana and Wyoming, including local craft beers.

Similar to other Whole Foods, the store houses a variety of specialty departments, including full-service seafood and meat counters, a cheese counter with more than 100 selections from around the world, a bakery department. The prepared foods section has a hot food bar, salad bar, soup station, made-in-house rotisserie chicken, and more.

The grocery section includes private label items sold under the 365 by Whole Foods Market brand, along with beauty, lifestyle and wellness offerings.

“We’re thrilled to join the great state of Montana for the first time ever with the opening of our Bozeman store today,” said Angela Lorenzen, Whole Foods Market’s regional president for the Mountain Pacific Region. “As Whole Foods Market focuses on our growth potential in 2023 and beyond, entering this new market is an exciting indication of what’s to come.”

Whole Foods kicked off its 2023 growth in mid-January, opening a location in Manhattan’s Wall Street district.

In conjunction with the opening of its Bozeman store, Whole Foods is giving back to the community. The grocer is donating to local organizations Big Sky Youth Empowerment, Gallatin Valley Land Trust, and Montana Harvest of the Month. Additionally, nonprofit organization HRDC will participate in the Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program, receiving a refrigerated van to transport rescued food to communities in need.

Whole Foods Market operates more than 500 stores in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
