First Look: Salomon continues U.S. expansion
Mountain sports lifestyle brand Salomon has opened its fourth outpost in New York City.
Located in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, the 4,390-sq.-ft. store houses Salomon’s most comprehensive product assortment in North America. The merchandise mix is approximately 60% performance and 40% sportstyle, showcasing Salomon's full breadth of offerings — from road, gravel, and trail running to hiking, hydration, apparel and accessories — alongside its lifestyle footwear and apparel collections. (Customers can test out products on the store’s treadmill.)
The store is designed to celebrate the city's unique character through a series of bespoke elements, with components crafted by Salomon's in-house creative team in collaboration with local input. A striking floor-to-ceiling glass graphic illustrates all five New York City boroughs while tracing the iconic route of the New York City Marathon, honoring one of the world's most celebrated running events.
Behind the cash wrap, a feature wall constructed from reclaimed Williamsburg brick pays tribute to New York's historic red brick architecture. It grounds the space in the city's industrial heritage while adding a distinctive local touch.
“This store is not only a place to discover product,” stated Salomon president and CEO Guillaume Meyzenq. "It’s a platform to connect with the community — to meet, to run, to share experiences, and to express what the modern mountain sports lifestyle looks like in a city like New York.”
The Flatiron store joins Salomon’s existing locations in New York City (in Manhattan's SoHo and Upper West Side, and Brooklyn's Williamsburg). The brand also has a store in West Hollywood, Calif., with a location slated to open in Beverly Hills this fall.
Founded in 1947 as a French Alps ski-hardgoods brand, Salomon has evolved into a global performance and sportstyle company. It is now part of international sporting goods group Amer Brands, which is based in Helsinki, Finland. Its portfolio includes Wilson, Atomic and Arc’teryx.
