First Look: Nordstrom Local opens in Brooklyn
Nordstrom is expanding its footprint in New York City.
The department store retailer has brought its Nordstrom Local format to Brooklyn, opening a 3,000-sq.-ft. location in Williamsburg. It’s the third Nordstrom Local in the New York City market, with the others located in Manhattan’s West Village and Upper East Side neighborhoods.
Nordstrom Locals are designed as neighborhood service hubs. The new Brooklyn unit offers online order pick up, complimentary gift wrapping and gift boxes for all Nordstrom purchases, returns processing from Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack and alteration services on purchases from Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack and other retailers.
In addition, it accepts gently used clothing and shoes, with all donations going to Housing Works, where they’ll be sold to support local programs that make an impact in the community.
“New York is one of our largest markets and we’re looking forward to opening Nordstrom Local Williamsburg to offer Brooklyn customers even more opportunities to engage with our services closer to where they live and work,” said Fanya Chandler, president of Nordstrom stores. “We’ve learned a lot from our existing locations in the market and are excited to offer customers more convenience and personalized service.”
MG2 partnered with Nordstrom Local for the new design of the Williamsburg location. The MG2 team made the most of already existing design elements, utilizing the storefront entrance, concrete flooring and the suspended wooden ceiling. Featuring high open ceilings and wood slatting, the light-filled, earthy aesthetic of the interior is warm and welcoming.
“With the opening of Nordstrom Local in Williamsburg, customers now have a new way to connect with the brand — and we’re glad we could play a part,” said Melissa Gonzalez, MG2 principal and founder of MG2 Advisory. “Our consumer insights research shows that customers are looking for a personalized, service-oriented shopping experience. Nordstrom Local brings all of that — including convenient in-store pick up as well as onsite tailoring — and more to Brooklyn."
