First Look: Foot Locker introduces ‘store of the future’ to the Big Apple
Foot Locker’s new immersive concept is making its New York City debut.
Internally called “Foot Locker Reimagined,” according to an industry source, the athletic giant’s new store was designed to elevate the shopping experience and demonstrate the brand’s leadership position in sneaker culture. Located in New York City’s Midtown section, Foot Locker’s new experience store marks a pivotal point in the retailer’s global revitalization strategy.
It features a streamlined, easier-to-shop layout, a more modern and distinctive environment, digital fixtures and other technological advances.
Specifically, the Big Apple location features Foot Locker’s ‘Home Court’ experience. The section, which was created through a new partnership with Nike and Jordan Brand, offers the latest basketball products from several top brands.
Foot Locker’s New York City store also features immersive experiences. These include "The Clinic Digital Experience," a self-initiated vertical jump challenge to test sneaker performance , as well as 3-D scanning technology to help customers find the best fit for their kicks.
The New York City location is also debuting the brand’s new Kids Foot Locker concept. Designed to introduce the younger generation in sneaker culture, this section features several interactive elements including an engaging activity table and social spaces perfect for capturing selfies, among other offerings.
The brand also plans to incorporate elements of the New York City store into new and existing locations throughout the chain, according to the source.
The athletic footwear giant first introduced this immersive concept at Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, N.J., in the spring.
The Willowbrook site and New York City flagship are the first of five ‘store of the future” locations Foot Locker plans to open this year.
Foot Locker also planned to introduce the concept in Paris, in time for the Summer Olympics, and in Melbourne, Australia. An opening is also set for Delhi, India. It will be Foot Locker's first store in the country.
