Birkenstock has opened its first store in France as part of a larger European expansion.

The sandal brand’s new Paris location is a two-story, 1,400-sq.-ft. store located near the Centre Pompidou art museum and Paris City Hall. The store, which opened on July 20, is designed with gypsum walls, along with leather and cork featured throughout the interior, paying homage to the design materials of the sandals. In the basement, an "experience area" is equipped with a giant light box showcasing Birkenstock’s latest campaigns, which will be used for community events and retail activations.

The Paris store is Birkenstock’s first store in the region in four years. The brand added that it will be opening other stores in several major European cities over the next few years.

"This store will help us to connect more personally with consumers,” said Nico Bouyakhf, president and managing director of Birkenstock Europe. “There are many key cities where we are not present in Europe, and we are excited to start our retail expansion in a more meaningful way with an iconic city like Paris and in a renowned location like the Marais, bringing rich storytelling and experience around the footbed in a unique environment that reflects an authentic Parisian flavor."

To celebrate the opening, the Paris store will showcase the brand new Natural Active Recovery Pack. Limited to 1,500 pieces and featuring exclusive packaging, this kit includes the Active Recovery footbed, the special edition Birki Air 2.0, and the all-new cork tools. The pack will be available in the Paris store and online before being fully integrated into the Birkenstock range by 2025.

Manufactured in Germany, Birkenstock sandals are sold in more than 100 countries on all continents. In 2017, the company added sleep systems and natural cosmetics to its portfolio of products.
