Exclusive Q&A: The Vitamin Shoppe supports omnichannel commerce at POS

Chain Store Age recently spoke with Scott Devlin, CIO of The Vitamin Shoppe, about the retailer’s POS-centric omnichannel commerce strategy. The leading specialty health-and-wellness retailer, which rolled out a new cloud-based store architecture in April 2023, recently signed an agreement to implement the Jumpmind Commerce cloud-native, mobile-first POS solution.

Devlin discussed how The Vitamin Shoppe, which is also deploying the Jumpmind Promote omnichannel unified promotions platform, selected and will utilize Jumpmind Commerce to enhance store associate and customer experiences across both brick-and-mortar stores as well as its e-commerce site.

What made The Vitamin Shoppe decide to upgrade your POS system? 

The Vitamin Shoppe is on a journey to build out a robust set of omnichannel commerce capabilities. Our goal is to provide a seamless and outstanding customer and associate experience across every touchpoint. After an exhaustive review of the market and our existing capabilities, it was clear that Jumpmind Commerce was the right platform for The Vitamin Shoppe at this stage of our evolution.

Why did you select the Jumpmind Commerce POS platform?

Jumpmind Commerce demonstrated an associate experience and architecture that align perfectly with our vision of cross-channel commerce. Its vision for the future of the product, along with outstanding reviews from existing customers, were also key factors in this decision.

What specific benefits do you receive from utilizing the Jumpmind platform? 

Our store team was very impressed with the user experience that Jumpmind provides. From a technology perspective, Jumpmind leverages a composable commerce architecture (Editor’s Note: A composable architecture is a cloud-based collection of integrated, best-of-breed solutions communicating with each other and acting as a customized technology ecosystem) that will facilitate cross-channel integration, and more efficient special order types, such as buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) and subscription. 

Jumpmind also offers a modern cross-channel promotion engine that will allow us to serve our stores and direct-to-consumer business.

Are there any future plans for your new POS solution that you can discuss?

One thing that we are excited about, given the flexible architecture that Jumpmind is built on, is moving more store tasks into a single application. This will make transactions and interactions more efficient for our associates and our customers.

The Vitamin Shoppe - an overview

In the U.S., The Vitamin Shoppe has more than 690 company-operated stores under The Vitamin Shoppe and Super Supplements banners. The company is expanding its retail footprint via an omnichannel franchising model. It opened its first franchise stores in 2022. 

Globally, The Vitamin Shoppe serves customers in select Asia, South America, and Central America markets through local omnichannel partners.
