Done Deal: C&S Wholesale Grocers completes $1.77B acquisition of SpartanNash

 C&S Wholesale Grocers has gained a national distribution footprint via acquisition.

C&S has completed its acquisition of SpartanNash Company. Under the terms of the deal, which was announced in June, C&S agreed to acquire SpartanNash for $26.90 per share, in a deal valued at $1.77 billion, including debt. 

The combined company operates almost 60 complementary distribution centers and serves close to 10,000 independent retail locations, as well as military commissaries and exchanges, with more than 200 corporate-run grocery stores. It employs more than 30,000 team members.

C&S delivers supply chain solutions, products and services to chain, independent and military customers from 60 distribution centers nationwide. It operates more than 200 corporate-run grocery stores primarily under the banners: D&W Fresh Market, Grand Union, Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets and Piggly Wiggly.

SpartanNash operates two complementary business segments: food wholesale and grocery retail. On the retail side, the company operates nearly 200 brick-and-mortar grocery stores, primarily under the banners of Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets and D&W Fresh Market, in addition to dozens of pharmacies and fuel centers with convenience stores.
