Dollar General taps Wayfair exec for inventory role

Dollar General has made two senior leadership appointments.

The discount retailer said that Peggie Fort has joined the company as VP, inventory and demand management. Fort will lead collaboration with merchandising, finance and the ONE Supply Chain network on forecasting, ordering and inventory levels.

Fort has more than 30 years of experience in retail, including global merchandise planning, buying and allocation functions across e-commerce, brick and mortar, wholesale and corporate organizations. Most recently, she served as head of planning & allocation, specialty retail at Wayfair.

Earlier in her career, she held positions at Pottery Barn Teen, Bloomingdale’s and Tory Burch.

In other appointments,  Kelly Collier has been promoted to senior VP, assistant general counsel. In this role, Collier will continue to lead the company’s business law team as she supports and advises those managing the company’s operations and strategic initiatives.  She oversees the management of regulatory compliance, contract negotiation and review, business litigation, subsidiary management and intellectual property.

 Most recently Collier has advised on matters that include the company’s entry into Mexico and evolution of DG Media Network.  She joined Dollar General in 2009 as a senior attorney and has held positions of increasing responsibility over the course of her 14-year tenure with the company.

For its fourth quarter, Dollar General reported net income of $659.1 million, or $2.96 per share, up from $597.4 million, or $2.57 per share, in the year-age period. Net sales increased 17.9% to $10.2 billion. Same-store sales rose 5.7%.  For the full year, net sales increased 10.6% to $37.8 billion.

For fiscal 2023, Dollar General is planning to execute 1,050 new store openings, 2,000 remodels, and 120 store relocations.

As of March 3, 2023, Dollar General operated 19,147 Dollar General, DG Market, DGX and PopShelf stores across the United States and Mi Súper Dollar General stores in Mexico.
