Dollar General in leadership hires — and promotions

Dollar General is shaking up its senior leadership ranks with two new VP hires and a series of promotions.

The retailer said the executive moves, effective May 31, reflect its culture of employee growth and development, while also illustrating its operating priority of “Investing in Our Diverse Teams through Development, Empowerment and Inclusion.”

Dollar General announced the following executive appointments and promotions.

• Andrew Newkirk has joined Dollar General as senior VP of distribution, leading operations for half of DG’s distribution network. He has more than 20 years of distribution, transportation, logistics and operations leadership experience.

Mary Beth Hawthorne has joined Dollar General as VP of store operations for the Northeast region. Most recently, she served as VP North America- Beauty Systems Group at Sally Beauty. Prior to that, she spent five years at The Michaels Companies, from 2015 to 2020.

• Matthew Simonsen has been promoted to senior VP of real estate and development. He joined Dollar General in 2013, earning roles of increasing responsibility in store operations, procurement, pricing, business analytics and merchandising planning. He joined the DG real estate and development team in 2020 and most recently served as VP of real estate.

• Jackie Li has been promoted to senior VP of private brands and global sourcing. He joined Dollar General in 2018 as VP and chief global sourcing officer and has been instrumental in developing the company’s global sourcing strategies in quality products while driving cost savings.

• Tyler Hickman has been promoted to VP, division merchandise manager. Since joining the company in 2005, he has worked in various roles within the perishables category, most recently serving as senior director since 2019.

• Kimberly Huffman has been promoted to VP of human resources. She joined DG in 2012, most recently serving as senior director of human resources. Huffman will lead organizational development and corporate communications teams.

• Charlotte Hutchins has been promoted to VP of human resources. She has served in various field and corporate HR roles with increasing responsibility, Hutchins will continue to lead the growing and rapidly evolving corporate HR function.

Matt LucasRebecca Powers and Monty Williams have each been named as VP of distribution.

Lucas joined Dollar General in 2013 as an operations manager and most recently served as senior director of perishable distribution center operations.

Powers brings more than 15 years of retail omnichannel distribution experience that includes continuous improvement, project management and business development.

Williams has more than 16 years of warehouse, regional inventory allocation and customer fulfillment.

• Craig Marsh has been promoted to VP of information technology. With more than 20 years of experience in various technology roles, he has led a significant transformation of the DG technology team’s organizational structure and processes. Marsh joined the company in 2020 as senior director of information technology, helping to lead DG’s technology transformation journey.

Lucas joined Dollar General in 2013 as an operations manager and most recently served as senior director of perishable distribution center operations. He has been instrumental in implementing multiple distribution center startups while improving distribution center leadership development, productivity, safety and policy compliance.

Powers brings more than 15 years of retail omnichannel distribution experience that includes continuous improvement, project management and business development. Williams has more than 16 years of warehouse, regional inventory allocation and customer fulfillment.
