Dollar General is planning to open its first store in the state of Idaho.
Dollar General is increasing its presence in the Pacific Northwest.
The discounter has started construction of a store in Athol, Idaho, with a scheduled opening by spring 2022. The location will mark Dollar General’s entry in its 47th state. (In addition to Idaho, the company currently does not have stores in Alaska, Hawaii and Montana.).
Dollar General is on track to open 1,050 stores in fiscal 2021. It also will undertake 1,750 store remodels, and 100 store relocations. As of July, Dollar General operated more than 17,600 stores, with approximately 75% of the U.S. population currently resides within five miles of a Dollar General store.
“Dollar General is committed to helping customers save time and money on everyday essentials, and we look forward to bringing our convenience and value to Idaho shoppers,” said Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior VP of real estate and store development. “In addition to providing affordable access to Idahoans, we are equally excited to create new career opportunities for local residents. We look forward to welcoming new customers into our first Idaho store when the project is completed early next year.”
