Direct-to-consumer bedding retailer names innovation chief

Purple Innovation Inc. is tapping a consumer electronics veteran as its first-ever chief innovation officer.

Lehi, Utah-based Purple, a digitally-native, direct-to-consumer (DTC) retailer selling mattresses, bedding and pillows online and via brick-and-mortar showrooms., has named Jeff Hutchings to the new position of chief innovation officer, effective May 1, 2022. Hutchings will oversee strategy and operations of the company's product solutions, and play a leading role in supporting Purple's future growth plans.

Hutchings will be based at Purple’s corporate headquarters and report directly to Rob DeMartini, who was officially appointed CEO of Purple in March 2022.

Hutchings brings more than a decade of experience in strategic business leadership in innovation, R&D, new product introduction (NPI), and quality assurance. Previously, he served as the chief product officer at Skullcandy Inc.

Prior to his role at Skullcandy Inc., where he served as both chief product officer and VP of product, Hutchings held various roles at Harman International, a global provider of connected car technology and lifestyle audio innovations. He has over 20 total years of experience leading corporate technology, engineering management, strategy, and innovative operations. Hutchings holds a BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, ASIC/FPGA design, Computer Science, and Software Development from the University of Utah.
