Cracker Barrel taps Bloomin' Brands exec as its new CEO

David Deno, CEO, Cracker Barrel
David Deno has been named CEO of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc. has named an experienced restaurant leader as its next chief executive.

The casual-dining chain appointed David Deno as CEO  and board member, effective August 10. He succeeds Julie Masino, who will step down on the same date, but will remain in an advisory capacity until Oct. 9 to support a smooth transition. Masino has served as CEO since late 2023.

Deno will take the reins of Cracker Barrel as it continues to recover financially after a sharp decline in traffic last summer following a poorly-received revamp of the company’s signature country-themed logo and interiors to a more modern look. The update was met with public outcry and social media backlash, and the company quickly changed course.

Most recently, Deno was CEO of restaurant company Bloomin' Brands from 2019 to 2024, where he strengthened its financial foundation and expanded its international presence. He previously served as Bloomin' Brands executive VP and CFO from 2012 to 2019, leading the company through its initial public offering. "Following a robust and thoughtful search process, we are pleased to welcome David as Cracker Barrel's next CEO," said Carl Berquist, independent chairman of the board. “He brings decades of experience across the restaurant and retail industries, with a strong track record of leading businesses through growth and a demonstrated commitment to operational excellence, guest experience, and team member engagement. We are confident David is the right leader to continue building on the Cracker Barrel legacy, drive further positive momentum operationally and financially, and create sustainable value for our shareholders."

Cracker Barrel operates approximately 660 company-owned locations in 43 states.

“Cracker Barrel is a truly iconic American brand, defined by its unique combination of warm country hospitality, timeless appeal, and deep connection with guests across generations," Deno said. “I am honored to lead the Cracker Barrel team and look forward to unlocking the full potential of this remarkable brand. Together, we will stay focused on delivering delicious food and exceptional experiences for our guests, while driving profitable growth."
