Costco strong in January

Costco Wholesale Corp. came strong out of the gate in the first month of the year.

The membership warehouse club retailer reported net sales of $11.57 billion for the four weeks ended February 2, 2020, up 8% from $10.71 billion in the year-ago period. Total same-store sales (excluding the impact of gasoline and foreign exchange) rose 5.3%, with a 5.6% increase in the U.S. E-commerce comparable sales surged 17.2%. 

Costco currently operates 785 warehouses, including 546 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 100 in Canada, 39 in Mexico, 29 in the United Kingdom, 26 in Japan, 16 in Korea, 13 in Taiwan, 11 in Australia, two in Spain, and one each in Iceland, France, and China. Costco also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.
