Costco posts strong July with net sales up nearly 5%

Costco operates 855 warehouses around the world.

Costco Wholesale Corp turned in a positive July performance that included the end of its month-long e-commerce slump.

Net sales totaled $17.60 for the four weeks ended July 30, up 4.5% from $16.85 billion last year.

Total company comparable sales increased 2.5%, rising 1.3% in the U.S., and 2.7% in Canada. Other international comps were up 8.9%. E-commerce comps increased 4.1%.

Total company comparable sales excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange rose 5%, rising 4.5% in the U.S., and 6.7% in Canada. Other international comps rose 5.7%. E-commerce comps rose 4%.
 

48-week period

For the 48 weeks ended July 30, Costco’s net sales totaled  $214.53 billion, up 4.6% from $205.19 billion in the year-ago period. Total comparable sales increased 3%. E-commerce sales fell 6.1%

Excluding the impacts from changes in gasoline prices and foreign exchange, total comps increased 5.3%. E-commerce sales fell 5.1%.

Costco currently operates 858 warehouses, including 590 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 107 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 32 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 18 in Korea, 15 in Australia, 14 in Taiwan, four each in China and Spain, two in France, and one each in Iceland, New Zealand and Sweden. Costco also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Australia.
