  • Williams-Sonoma stays on top in first quarter

    Williams-Sonoma had a strong first quarter of fiscal 2014, with net income climbing 17% to a better-than-expected $46.16 million from $39.17 million.

    Net sales grew 10% to $974.33 million from $887.8 million, also topping estimates.

    Total same-store sales grew 10%. Williams-Sonoma credited much of its success during the quarter to market share gains and advantages conferred by its multichannel operations.

    Borderfree is a digital company focused on helping retailers sell to anyone anywhere and last Friday the company sold itself to investor’s by completing an initial public stock offering.

    The company priced its offering of five million shares at $16 and enjoyed a 32% pop at the open when shares began trading at $21. The upward momentum proved to be unsustainable and by the close shares had receded to $20, registering a still respectable first day gain of 25%.

    Williams-Sonoma president and CEO Laura Alber credited the strength of the company’s brands across retail and e-commerce for its performance in the fourth quarter ended Feb. 2.

  • Wine.com hires execs from Shutterly, Williams-Sonoma

    San Francisco -- Wine.com, announced the addition of Peter Elarde as chief marketing officer and Greg Tatem as VP, engineering to the Wine.com executive team.

  • Former Williams-Sonoma exec to head global retail at Levi’s

    New York -- Levi Strauss & Co. has named Craig Nomura as president of global retail, effective Feb. 3, 2014. He joins Levi’s from Williams-Sonoma Inc., where he was most recently senior VP of global development.

    Nomura, who also held leadership positions at Gap Inc., The Gymboree Corp., Guess?, Inc., and Foot Locker, succeeds Joelle Maher, who left Levi’s in June 2013 to join Gymboree as COO.

  • Levi Strauss appoints new head of global retail

    Levi Strauss & Co. has named Craig Nomura as EVP and president of global retail, effective Feb. 3. He will report to president and CEO Chip Bergh.
