  • Report: Hoffman Estates working to keep Sears headquarters

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- An Associated Press report on Tuesday said that Hoffman Estates, Ill., trustees have passed a resolution asking the state of Illinois to try and keep the Sears Holdings Corp. headquarters located in Hoffman Estates.

    Sears has said it is in discussions with two prospective destinations for its corporate headquarters, but is still talking to Illinois about staying put.

    Hoffman Estates’ mayor William McLeod has said it would "devastating" if Sears moved its headquarters to another locale.

  • DDR and Walmart team to open, expand four stores

    Beachwood, Ohio -- DDR Corp. announced Friday plans to redevelop four shopping centers by adding two new Walmart stores in Florida and expanding two existing stores in Ohio and Puerto Rico.

    "These projects will deliver desired growth opportunities to the world's most successful retailer and further strengthen DDR's relationship with its largest tenant," said Paul Freddo, senior executive VP leasing & development for DDR.

  • Favorites emerging with latest toy list from Target

    MINNEAPOLIS — Target is the latest in a line of retailers to put out a list of what it thinks will be the top toys of the holiday season. Many of Target's hottest toys, including FIJIT friends and the LeapFrog branded LeapPad, are also on toy lists for Toys"R"Us, Kmart and Walmart.

    BENTONVILLE, Ark. — While Toys"R"Us and Kmart were among the first retailers to release their hot toy lists, Walmart wasn't too far behind this year, offering many of the same toys as the aforementioned companies, and even some exclusives. 

  • Sears financial exec hired by JPMorgan to develop payment services

    New York City -- JPMorgan said Thursday it has hired Sears Holdings Corp. president of financial services Susan Ehrlich as a senior VP.

    Ehrlich will be charged to help create new payments services for customers, retailers and small businesses.

    Ehrlich managed Sears’s expansion of payment and credit products over a five-year period for the retailer.
     

  • J.C. Penney to renovate, expand Rock Hill Galleria store

    Rock Hill, S.C. -- The developers of Rock Hill Galleria, in Rock Hill, S.C., said Tuesday that the 470,000-sq.-ft. regional mall will initiate a comprehensive renovation and expansion of mall anchor J.C. Penney.

    Construction will begin soon and is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.

  • Report: Sears pushes to lease space to outside retailers

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- A Friday report by Wall Street Journal said that Sears Holdings Corp. is in an active push to lease surplus space to other retailers. Its real estate division has listed on its website some 4,000 of its namesake and Kmart stores that have space for other merchants or retail operations to lease.

  • CBL to acquire Northgate Mall

    Chattanooga, Tenn. -- CBL & Associates Properties said Thursday that it has agreed to acquire Northgate Mall in CBL’s hometown of Chattanooga, for $11.5 million in cash.

    The mall was listed for sale through an online auction. CBL anticipates closing on the transaction by Oct. 6.
