    Alabama’s number-one shopping destination can now say that it is not only getting a new Von Maur department store, but also a full-scale renovation.

    General Growth Properties and Jim Wilson & Associates’ Riverchase Galleria, located in Hoover, Ala., has unveiled a massive redevelopment project that will include expansive updates, modernization, and enhancement of both the interior and the exterior of the property.

  • Von Maur joins Riverchase Galleria project

    Hoover, Ala. -- Chicago-based General Growth Properties and Montgomery, Ala.-based Jim Wilson & Associates announced that Von Maur department store will open at Riverchase Galleria, in Hoover, Ala.

    Alabama’s first Von Maur will open in 2013, featuring a 187,000-sq.-ft. store that will join Macy’s, Sears, J.C. Penney and Belk anchors.

    Baltimore -- Atlanta-based Jones Lang LaSalle Retail announced that its president Greg Maloney has been appointed receiver of the Eastpoint Mall located in Baltimore County. Under Maloney’s leadership, Jones Lang LaSalle’s retail leasing and management team will assume immediate oversight of the mall and help stabilize the asset.

    TORONTO — Sears Canada is closing three downtown stores in Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa. The move follows an announcement last month by Sears Holdings, the majority owner of Sears Canada, that it will raise about $770 million by spinning off parts of its business and selling prime real estate.

  • Sears Holdings wins EPA Energy Star’s highest honor: the Corporate Commitment Award

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. -- Sears Holdings Corp. said Thursday that it has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star program’s highest honor: the Energy Star Corporate Commitment Award.

    The award was given in recognition of Sears leadership in energy efficiency and commitment to continuous improvements. Sears is the fifth corporation to earn the distinction in the EPA's history, and is the first company to receive the award since 2005.

  • Sears gets out of "Great Indoors"

    HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill.— Sears quietly added all nine of its Great Indoors stores to the list of store closings on Feb. 23.

    Store managers were informed last week, a Sears spokeswoman confirmed, but no exact date has been given for the closings.

    The upscale remodeling and home décor stores began opening in 1998, long before the Sears and Kmart merger. At one point, Sears operated 20 of the units, but they were never a big moneymaker for the company.
