    Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores has added two industry veterans to lead the company’s marketing and merchandising divisions. The company has named Jim Wright as SVP of marketing and advertising, and Megan Featherston as SVP of merchandising.

  • Sears Q1 loss widens; closing 80 stores

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears Holdings Corp. on Thursday said it plans to close at least 80 stores this year as the retailer continues to deal with mounting losses. The retailer reported that its fiscal first quarter net loss grew to $402 million, from $279 million in the prior year first quarter.

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears, Roebuck and Co. is launching a new promotional Web series starting reality TV stars Sean and Catherine Lowe and Sears celebrity designer Ty Pennington. Customers and Shop Your Way loyalty members will be asked to design the patio of the couple's new home via this Web series from Sears outdoor living.

  • Aaron’s names two new VPs

    Atlanta – Lease-to-own retailer Aaron’s Inc. has named Sharon Lawrence VP finance and Kirby Salgado as VP merchandising. Lawrence, formerly Aaron's director of franchise finance, joined Aaron's in 2012 after a 25-plus year career at SunTrust Bank, while Salgado most recently served as VP/general merchandise manager for Sears Holdings.

  • Sears looks to sell itself in Canada

    Sears Holdings plans to hire an investment banking firm to explore strategic alternatives regarding its 51% ownership stake in Sears Canada.

    The strategic alternatives are said to include the potential sale of Sears Holdings’ interest or Sears Canada as a whole, according to a statement by the Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based company. In a separate statement, Sears Canada said its board of directors intended to cooperate fully with Sears Holdings in the strategic alternatives exploration process to achieve full value for all shareholders.

  • Sears Holdings exploring sale of stake in Sears Canada

    Hoffman Estates, Ill. – Sears Holdings Corp. on Wednesday confirmed it is exploring strategic options for its 51% interest in Sears Canada Inc., including a sale. To assist in its efforts, the retailer said it will hire to an investment banking firm.

    Sears Canada's board of directors and management intend to cooperate fully with Sears Holdings in this process. Net loss attributable to Sears Holdings’ shareholders was $358 million and $1.4 billion, respectively, for the fourth quarter and full year of 2013.

  • Vera Bradley taps former OfficeMax exec to head e-commerce, omnichannel efforts

    New York -- Accessories retailer Vera Bradley has named former OfficeMax executive Thomas R. Giacalone as VP e-commerce.

    "Growing our e-commerce business is a critical piece of our five-year strategic plan, and we are very fortunate to have someone of Tom Giacalone's background and caliber join Vera Bradley to lead this important function," said CEO Robert Wallstrom.
