  • A rough third quarter for Stein Mart

    Stein Mart reported negative same-store sales growth on the same day that the company also lost its chief merchant to an off-price rival.

    For the third quarter ended Oct. 31, Stein Mart comps fell 2.3%.

    "Unseasonably warm weather impacted traffic and our sales during the third quarter," said Jay Stein, CEO. "We continue to have a positive outlook on our important fourth quarter holiday sales which will include incremental sales from six new stores opened through the third quarter plus four more new stores opening in November."

  • Ross Stores hires chief merchant from Stein Mart

    Ross Stores Inc. has hired away the chief merchant at Stein Mart to lead merchandising at DD's Discounts.

    Ross Stores announced that Brian Morrow will join the company as president and CMO at DD's effective Dec. 7. Morrow will report directly to Barbara Rentler, the company's CEO, and be responsible for directing all aspects of merchandising at DD's Discounts.

  • Ross Dress for Less has big plans Oct. 10

    Whatever you have planned for Saturday, Oct. 10, specialty apparel retailer Ross Dress for Less will probably be busier.

    The Ross Stores Inc. banner is opening six new stores, including three in a new market, as well as relocating a store.

  • Ross Stores continues aggressive store growth

    Ross Stores Inc. is continuing an aggressive growth strategy for both its Ross Dress for Less and DD’s Discount banners. The new store openings are part of the retailer’s 2015 expansion program, totaling approximately 90 new locations during the year.

    Ross Dress for Less will open four new stores on Oct. 10. These include two new stores in the Chicago area: a 25,000-sq.-ft. store in Palatine located in the Deer Grove Centre, and a 24,000-sq.-ft. Joliet store is located in Joliet Commons.

  • Ross Stores beats Street in Q2

    Dublin, Calif. — Ross Stores Inc. surpassed Wall Street expectations for profit and revenue in a successful second quarter of fiscal 2015. Net earnings rose 8% to $259 million from $240 million the same quarter the prior fiscal year.

    Sales rose 9% to $2.97 billion from $2.73 billion, with same-store sales up 4%

  • Ross Stores is another off-price winner

    On the heels of another successful quarter from off-price rival TJX, Ross Stores Inc. also reported a spike in same store sales for the second quarter.

  • dd's Discounts opens fourth Tucson-area store

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., opened its newest Arizona store on June 27 – a 22,000-sq.-ft. unit in North Tucson.

    The newest store is located in the Oracle Gateway off of North Oracle Road and Pastime Road, 3.7 miles north of downtown Tucson, and it brings the total number of stores in the Tucson area to four.
     

  • dd's Discounts opens new Louisiana store

    Dublin, Calif. -- dd’s Discounts, a division of Ross Stores, Inc., opened a new store in Lafayette, Louisiana, on June 27.  

    The 21,000-sq.-ft. store is located in the Karam Shopping Center, a 100,238-sq.-ft. site at Evangeline Throughway and Willow Street.
