  • PetSmart Q2 income tops estimates; raises full-year outlook

    Phoenix -- PetSmart said Wednesday that its second-quarter net income rose 19% on improved sales. The retailer also boosted its full-year earnings forecast.

    PetSmart Inc. earned $93.4 million for the period ended Aug. 4, compared to $78.5 million a year ago.

    Revenue rose 5.3% to $1.71 billion from $1.62 billion. Services sales, which are included in total sales, grew 7.3% to $205 million.

    Same-store sales increased 3.4%.

The JLL Capital Markets Group also secured acquisition financing with Wells Fargo and additional equity from Heitman on behalf of the buyer, Dunhill Partners

    MINNEAPOLIS — According to Kantar Media’s Marx report, retailer promotion activity continued to grow with a 21.6% increase to more than 11.3 billion pages in the first half of 2013, with Walmart leading in retailer activity.

    Following on Walmart’s heels were Walgreens, Target and Family Dollar.

  • Cincinnati’s Colerain Towne Centre sells for $30 million

    Cincinnati, Ohio -- Kimco Realty has sold Colerain Towne Centre, a 400,000-sq.-ft. Cincinnati power center, for $30 million, according to Mid-America Real Estate Corp.’s investment sales group, which represented Kimco in the transaction in cooperation with Anchor Associates. The buyer is a private real estate company.

  • Former PetSmart CEO appointed to Hanes board

    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — HanesBrands has appointed former PetSmart chairman and CEO Robert F. Moran to the company’s board of directors.

    Moran, 62, whose term runs until the 2014 annual meeting of stockholders, will serve on the board’s audit committee. With Moran’s appointment, the Hanes board has 10 members.

    Moran's international career in the retail industry spans four decades. He retired last month from PetSmart, where served as COO from 2001 to 2009, prior to being promoted to CEO.

  • Former PetSmart chief named to HanesBrands board

    Winston-Salem, N.C. -- HanesBrands said it has tapped PetSmart former chairman and CEO Robert Moran to serve on its board of directors, expanding the number of directors to 10.

    Moran, 62, retired from PetSmart in June. He had served as CEO since 2009.

     

  • GNC beefs up board with former PetSmart and Midas muscle

    PITTSBURGH — GNC Holdings has elected former PetSmart CEO Robert Moran and former Midas CEO Alan Feldman to its board of directors.

"Their extensive experience leading global consumer brands and retail operations, both domestically and overseas, and past experience as CEOs of retail businesses should add significant strength to our board as we execute our future strategies."
