  • Sports Authority names Foss CEO

    Englewood, Colo. – Michael Foss has been named CEO of The Sports Authority Inc. He replaced outgoing CEO Darrell Webb, who is retiring both as the company’s chief executive and chairman of the board.

    Foss, a member of the board of directors of The Sports Authority since 2009, most recently served as executive VP and CFO at Petco Animal Supplies and as CFO of Circuit City Stores before that. He has 30 years of executive experience across a variety of verticals including retail.

  • Grupo Gigante seeks to buy remaining stake of Office Depot’s Mexican unit

    New York -- Grupo Gigante wants buy the 50% stake in the Mexican unit of Office Depot that it does not already own.

    The Mexican retailer on Thursday said it has offered 8.78 billion pesos ($687.34 million) to buy the stake, Reuters reported.

    In March, Gigante entered into a joint venture with Petco Animal Supplies to open at least 50 stores in Mexico and other Latin American countries over seven years.

     

  • Gigante and Petco in deal to open stores in Mexico and Latin America

    New York -- Mexican supermarket and restaurant operator Gigante has entered into a joint venture with Petco Animal Supplies to open at least 50 stores in Mexico and other Latin American countries over seven years, Reuters reported.

    The first two Petco stores will open this year in Mexico City and Guadalajara, Gigante said in a release to the stock exchange.

    The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

     

  • A retail leader named chairman of retail leaders association

    Target chairman, president and CEO Gregg Steinhafel was elected chairman of the board of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA).

    Steinhafel previously served as the board’s vice chairman and in his new capacity succeeds former RILA board chairman Bill Rhodes, chairman, president and CEO of AutoZone. 

  • New leadership names at Pet Supplies "Plus"

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Pet Supplies “Plus” announced that Dave Bolen was promoted to president and CEO, effective July 11.

    Bolen joined PSP on May 2 as president after spending five years at Petco Animal Supplies, a national retailer of pet food and supplies, where he served as EVP and chief merchandising officer. Prior to Petco, Bolen served as EVP merchandising, marketing and supply chain at Jo-Ann Stores, a leading specialty retailer of fabric and craft supplies.

  • Report: Petco acquires Complete Petmart chain

    Dayton, Ohio -- A report Wednesday by the Business Courier said that Petco has purchased a 29-store Complete Petmart chain, based in Dayton, Ohio.

    Financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed. San Diego, Calif.-based Petco said all of the chain's 230 employees will become employees of privately held Petco Animal Supplies.

    Petco said it will be making changes to the former Complete Petmart store layouts over the next few weeks.

  • Pet Supplies "Plus" names new president

    FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. --Pet Supplies "Plus" announced that Dave Bolen will join the company as president, effective May 2. PSP, a portfolio company of Irving Place Capital, is the third-largest pet specialty retailer in the United States, according to the company.
