  • Study: DSW is America’s favorite shoe retailer, followed by Nordstrom

    Boulder, Colo. -- In survey results released Wednesday by Market Force Information, DSW was named America’s No. 1 shoe retailer by more than 4,000 consumers polled.

    Nordstrom, Nike, Shoe Carnival and Famous Footwear rounded out the top five.

  • Two new locations announced for Nordstrom Rack

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced plans to open a Nordstrom Rack in Louisville, Ky. The 33,000-sq.-ft. store, at Shelbyville Road Plaza, is scheduled to open in fall 2013 and will be the retailer's first location in the state.

    Nordstrom is also expanding its presence in Florida. It will open a Nordstrom Rack at the Shoppes at University Town Center to serve customers in the Sarasota-Bradenton metro area. The approximately 35,000-sq.-ft.store is scheduled to open in fall 2013.

  • Soma Intimates makes South Jersey debut at Cherry Hill Mall

    Cherry Hill, N.J. -- Philadelphia-based Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust (PREIT) said that Soma Intimates recently opened its first location in the area at Cherry Hill Mall, in Cherry Hill, N.J. The 2,800-sq.-ft. store is the newest addition to a vibrant mall that is anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, and J.C. Penney and features Apple, A/X Armani Exchange, Crate and Barrel, H&M, Henri Bendel, Hugo Boss, J. Crew, Michael Kors, Sephora, Teavana, The Art of Shaving, The Container Store, The North Face, True Religion and Urban Outfitters.

  • Nordstrom announces two new Rack locations

    Seattle -- Nordstrom announced two new locations for Nordstrom Rack, with stores planned for Chicago and Jacksonville, Fla.

    In Jacksonville, Nordstrom Rack will open in The Markets at Town Center in Jacksonville, Fla. The approximately 35,000-sq.-ft. store is scheduled to open in fall 2013.

    The announcement follows recently announced plans to open a Nordstrom full-line store at St. Johns Town Center in fall 2014. Nordstrom currently operates nine full-line stores and eight Rack stores throughout Florida.

  • Study: Nordstrom is nation’s favorite fashion retailer; Dick’s tops for sports apparel

    Boulder, Col. -- Nordstrom is the nation’s favorite fashion retail chain, according to an annual consumer study conducted by customer intelligence solutions provider Market Force Information. The upscale department store edged out Kohl’s, which had ranked first in the three previous studies. This year, Kohl’s moved to the No. 2 spot overall, followed by Macy’s, Dillard’s and J.C. Penney.

    Two years of deep same-store sales declines can easily feel like a death sentence for most retailers. However, the data suggests it is indeed far from that. 

    We analyzed all specialty retailers with sufficient public data over the last 20 years—nearly 70 retailers—and found that the majority of retailers who substantially underperformed the market ended up turning their comps positive in relatively short order. 

  • Cheesecake Factory to make state debut in Michigan

    Bloomfield Hills, Mich. -- Taubman Centers, owner of Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, Mich., said Friday that The Cheesecake Factory will make a Michigan debut with a new restaurant opening at Twelve Oaks.

    The 8,430-sq.-ft. Cheesecake Factory will open in latter 2013, and will feature French limestone floors, decorative columns, hand-painted murals and contemporary lighting.

    Twelve Oaks Mall is anchored by Nordstrom, Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, J.C. Penney, Sears and the Lifestyle Café Food Court.
     

     

  • Nordstrom bullish on online and outlet business; to double Rack count over next four years

    New York -- On the heels of a strong performance in 2012 that included a 7.3% same-store sales increase, Nordstrom Inc. is investing heavily in its future. Two big areas of investment: online and expansion of the Nordstrom Rack outlet division, both in the United States and in Canada.
     
    “Rack, direct and Canada will make up approximately half of our sales in the next five years,” Blake Nordstrom, president, Nordstrom Inc., said during the company’s quarterly conference call.
