Nordstrom wants to ensure that its employees have the time to vote on Nov. 3.

Nordstrom swung to a second-quarter loss amid closed stores due to the pandemic and a change in the timing of its biggest annual event.

Nordstrom reported a $521 million loss and a 40% drop in sales as its stores closed during the pandemic.

While Nordstrom performed modestly better than many other department stores over the course of the crisis, the overall gap between it and the rest was relatively slight.

Gap Inc. will start reopening its stores, starting with a small selection of locations in Texas this weekend, as COVID-19 lockdown restrictions slowly begin to ease in some areas.

Closing 16 of its full-line stores – around 14% of the total store base – is a significant move by Nordstrom.

Fewer fitting rooms, no beauty makeovers, plexiglass dividers at checkouts and a limited number of customers allowed in a store.

Nordstrom Inc. is the largest employer of tailors in North America — and it’s putting them to good use as stores remain closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
