  • Krispy Kreme acquired in billion dollar deal

    A company that achieved global fame for its simple glazed doughnuts has been acquired by the owners of a growing coffee empire. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts has agreed to be acquired by JAB Beech Inc., a unit of German investment firm JAB Holding Company, for about $1.35 billion. The deal, which would take Krispy Kreme private, is the most recent in a string of purchases by JAB Holdings, including its acquisition in late 2015 of single-serve coffee maker Keurig Green Mountain.
  • Papa Murphy’s adds three independent directors

    Vancouver, Wash. – Papa Murphy’s Holdings Inc. has appointed Jean M. Birch, Rob Weisberg and Jeffrey B. Welch as independent members of its board of directors, effective April 15, 2015. The appointments replace both Thomas H. Lee and Achi Yaffe, who have resigned from the board, as well as increase the board size by one seat.

    Indianapolis - Papa John’s International Inc. has promoted senior VP of global operations Steve Ritchie to the position of COO. In addition, the company’s founder, chairman and CEO John Schnatter, will assume the additional role of president, continuing to focus on all aspects of the company’s business while also acting as brand spokesperson.

  • Krispy Kreme taps Papa John’s exec as president/CEO

    Winston-Salem, N.C. – Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Inc. has named Anthony N. (“Tony”) Thompson, 47, as president and CEO, effective June 1. Thompson joins the company from Papa John’s International Inc., where he most recently served as president and COO.
