  • Family Dollar names Bed, Bath & Body VP as executive VP, supply chain

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar Stores announced that it has named Jeffrey W. Macak to the position of executive VP–supply chain.

    For the last 13 years, Macak has served as VP-global supply chain for Bed Bath & Beyond, where he was responsible for the supply chain, logistics and distribution of goods for the company and its subsidiaries.

    MINNEAPOLIS — According to Kantar Media’s Marx report, retailer promotion activity continued to grow with a 21.6% increase to more than 11.3 billion pages in the first half of 2013, with Walmart leading in retailer activity.

    Following on Walmart’s heels were Walgreens, Target and Family Dollar.

Following on Walmart’s heels were Walgreens, Target and Family Dollar.

  • CBRE brokers sale of Houston-area center

    Houston -- CBRE’s national retail investment group has arranged the sale of Sheldon Forest Shopping Center in Channelview, Texas, east of Houston, on behalf of Weingarten Realty Investors.

    Gerland’s Food Fair anchors the 97,380-sq.-ft. center. Major tenants include Family Dollar and Burke’s Outlet. Both Phase I and II of the center are 100% occupied.

    Capcor Partners purchased the property for an undisclosed price.

     

  • Sam's Club exec heads to Family Dollar

    MATTHEWS, N.C. — Former Sam’s Club executive Jason Reiser is heading to Family Dollar to be the company's SVP of merchandising. He replaces John Scanlon, who left the company at the end of March.

    Family Dollar announced the key changes to its merchandising organization on the heels of better-than-expected third quarter results for fiscal 2013 ended June 1. 

  • Family Dollar’s Q3 net income drops 3%; announces merchandising changes

    Matthews, N.C. -- Family Dollar reported lower net income in the third quarter of 2013 as its shoppers continue to hold off on discretionary spending.  The discounter also named Jason Reiser to the position of senior VP merchandising.

    Family Dollar posted net income of $120.9 million, down 3% from $124.5 million in the year-ago period. Its results, however, topped expectations.

    Sales rose 9% to $2.57 billion. Same-store sales increased 2.9% as a result of higher customer transaction totals and traffic volumes.

  • Family Dollar securities suit dismissed

    Matthews, N.C. – A lawsuit filed against Family Dollar by Pipefitters Local No. 636 alleging that Family Dollar violated federal securities laws has been voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff. Family Dollar had petitioned to have the suit dismissed, but Pipefitters Local No. 636 abandoned its claims before the court made a ruling. Family Dollar said it did not pay any money or make any concessions in relation to the claim being dropped.
